(Tetum) Aflatoxin experts from Australia, Dr. Ivan Kennedy, Dr. Graeme Wright and Dr. Francisco Sanchez-Bayo from QTT technologies, spent a week last November training staff of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) on the use of a new quick test kit to measure Aflatoxin in maize, peanut and cassava.

Seeds of Life (SoL) is currently seeking candidates for the position of IT Officer and Communications Coordinator.  This is a temporary position for 6 months till the end June 2016.  This position will be based in Dili with some travel to the municipalities and sucos.  The successful applicant will be required to start on  4 January 2016. (Tetum) Farmer groups that grow maize seed and have good results have lots of maize to handle after the harvest. Traditionally, for maize processing and particularly sorting seeds, this is mainly done by women as they are considered to do this more thoroughly than men. (more…)

(Tetum) Timor Leste’s  National Seed System for Released Varieties (NSSRV) was established in 2013 to ensure farmers timely access to quality seeds.  A documentary video detailing how the seed system works was produced to assist in disseminating the information.

In addition to the showing of this video on national TV, Seeds of Life (SoL) collaborated with Cinema Lorosa’e to show the video during their film nights in rural communities. (more…)
