(Tetum) Three community seed production groups (CSPGs) in Liquica have for the first time produced enough surplus seed of the improved maize variety Noi Mutin to share with vulnerable families in their district.

In only their second harvest season since forming in 2012, the three groups – Moris Foun, St. Antonio, and Balibau – shared more than 150 aqua bottles (1.3kg each) of Noi Mutin to over 80 households in Guico suco, Loes sub-district. (more…)

(Tetum) Seeds of Life is now working in all 13 districts of Timor-Leste following the official launch of activities in the Dili sub-districts in early September.

District and sub-district administrators, extension officers, chefe de sucos and MAF-SoL staff attended the launch event on 6 September to learn more about MAF-SoL and the planned district activities. (more…)

Gumboot donation makes for happy feet

(Tetum) It’s been a very rainy ‘dry season’, but many feet have stayed dry thanks to Hunter Boots’ donation of around 3,000 pairs of gumboots to farmers and extension staff.

Seeds of Life (SoL) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) distributed the Wellington boots in late 2012 to farmers in community seed producing groups, and MAF Extension Officers who work in the field with farmers. (more…)
