(Tetum) A recent visit from four Indonesian crop scientists to Timor-Leste to meet with MAF researchers has signalled the start of a new research-based relationship between the two countries.

The scientists from the Indonesia Legumes and Tuber Crops Research Institute (ILETRI) spent four days touring the country to understand how their proven technologies could work in Timor’s agricultural conditions. (more…)

(Tetum) Seeds of Life has prepared information sheets for 240 sucos (villages) across seven districts for free use by others.

These agriculture-related sheets contain suco-specific information, graphs and maps depicting rainfall data, topography, climate predictions, soil pH and hydrogeology. (more…)

(Tetum) “The Hohrae 1, 2 & 3 sweet potato varieties are so tasty, whether they’re steamed or fried,” says Agusto Martins (48), chief of the Hakiak Buras sweet potato group in Liquica, “and the leaves are yummy because they taste just like kang kong.”

Agusto is chief of a 10-member group (5 women, 5 men) in Manumetalau hamlet, Manumeta village, Bazartete sub-district, Liquisa district that grows the three improved sweet potato varieties in a 60 x 25 m2 production plot. (more…)

(Tetum) Taste-testing field days are valuable opportunities for MAF-SoL to find out the tastes and preferences of Timor-Leste’s farming communities; varieties on trial are either released, undergoing on-farm demonstration trials (OFDTs) or are in preliminary research stages.
