(Tetum) A recent visit from four Indonesian crop scientists to Timor-Leste to meet with MAF researchers has signalled the start of a new research-based relationship between the two countries.
The scientists from the Indonesia Legumes and Tuber Crops Research Institute (ILETRI) spent four days touring the country to understand how their proven technologies could work in Timor’s agricultural conditions. (more…)
(Tetum) Farmers wanting to plant the improved sweet potato varieties Hohrae 1, 2 and 3 will now be able to access quality cuttings from over 60 production centres across all 13 districts of Timor-Leste.
Seeds of Life (SoL) in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) has established the centres to reduce the time and distance that cuttings need to travel before reaching farmers. (more…)
(Tetum) The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Seeds of Life has 150,000 sweet potato cuttings of Hohrae 1, 2 and 3 released varieties available for distribution to farmers and institutions this January and February.

(Tetum) November 25 saw MAF-SoL staff provide drip irrigation training to Moris Foun Community Seed Production Group, a women’s Community Seed Production Group (CSPG) in Tibar, Liquica District. The new drip irrigation system will assist the group to cultivate the three highly productive varieties of sweet potato (Hohrae 1, 2 and 3) officially released by MAF that are 65-130% higher yielding than local varieties. Hohrae 3 is also a notable source of Vitamin A. Sweet potato cuttings have been planted this week to coincide with the beginning of the rainy season. (more…)
