Watch Seeds of Life on Australia Plus TV this Christmas Eve

(Tetun) Tune into ‘Food Bowl’ on Australia Plus television this Wednesday (24 December) to see how the Seeds of Life (SoL) program is helping farming families in Timor-Leste.

The half-hour episode set in Timor-Leste – screening 17.30, 20.30 and 23.30 Dili time – features the stories of SoL’s staff and the farmers they work with to improve food security. (more…)

 

(Tetun) The MAF-SoL Annual Research Report has been written by local researchers in their national language Tetun for the first time ever, a huge milestone after eight years of on-the-job learning and training.

Since 2006, the Regional Advisors and Research Advisor have first produced the annual report in English before being translated to Tetun. However the 2013 report was written first in Tetun by local Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) researchers and then translated to English. (more…)

(Tetun) A new approach to communication for development will help low-literate farmers adopt improved agronomic practices in Timor-Leste.

Farmers who adopt new maize varieties developed by the Seeds of Life (SoL) program and Ministry of Agriculture (MAF) can expect significant yield increases if they use traditional cultivation methods. If they also apply appropriate agronomic practices (such as planting in lines, weeding, drying and storing seed in airtight containers etc.), even higher yield increases are achievable.
